Finding Ganesh: Preview

Thank you to Luis D. Rosado for taking most of these beautiful pictures of the reception, June 26, 2014,  a Preview of Finding Ganesh, Nikki Schiro's most recent body of pastel paintings. The photos of the artwork were documented by Jason Mandella. The artwork will be on view thru July via appointment with the artist.

Finding Ganesh a series that collectively shapes a contemporary fairytale, touching on cultural gaps of globalized society. The story is set in India on the last day of Ganesh Chaturthi festival, and reflects on the recent gang rapes, lack of cultural empathy/understanding as well as the Gulabi Gang (female activists in Uttar Pradesh).

New York: OZANEAUX ArtSpace welcomes Laurence Perin from Bordeaux, France, to celebrate Spring with her new colorful paintings.

Laurence Perin’s Art has been shown and sold across the world. She is essentially self-taught, from the Bordeaux region of France (though she’s spent the greater part of her life traveling abroad). Despite being self-taught, her artworks are distinctly different than other kinds of Art one might find strolling about the streets of Chelsea today. This is because Perin’s art is geared to the everyday person. You, Me, Them....She takes pride in this. Her gripe with traditional Art/Gallery scene is that it makes Art unapproachable---the prices are exuberant and the potential clientele is thereby pre-selective.

She’s exhibited at Galerie Tatry in Bordeaux, as well as the First European trade show on the “Maison & Objet” in Paris. With D.I.Y. (Do-it-Yourself) charm and determination, Perin initiated several venues, thru the years, including: Lez arts cafe art gallery/restaurant in Grand Case, Saint Martin, a platform for visual artists and musicians to exhibit their work to the public; Art Studio Shop in Barbizon, Paris; the Villa Mandarine art studio and gallery in Bordeaux France. In St. Martin, she created “Posters”, an artistic and commercial composition featuring the best entertainment on the island (St. Martin) and developed the concept in France with great success.

Because of her proximity with the vineyards, Laurence has developed “contemporary wine art” for the past six years. She sells this “wine art” at the key events for major international operators in the wine and spirits sector, and every year is invited to exhibit with international Home expo and different vineyard Bordelais.

“I use my experience and my energy to create new paintings. I explore a maximum of universe to never get tired of it. I am in perpetual seduction. My inspiration is birthed by my surroundings; French culture, American Dreams, travels, trends, news, etc.” Laurence Perin

Viewing is by appointment thru 04/15/2014. All proceeds go entirely to the artist.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:February 26, 2014, New York. Ozaneaux Art Space is very pleased to present Continually Yours, Miss Communication. This exhibition focuses on recent artworks by Curtis Carman. The Exhibition opens with an Artist’s Reception on March 6, 2014 6:30–9 pm and extends thru March 15.

Curtis Carman explores interplay between language and identity. The exhibit will feature a series of text-based drawings that juxtapose vernacular phrases and words with unskilled graphic design--a sincere, yet ultimately inarticulate exercise--in addition to a corresponding series of small “painting-selfies” that feature both the artist and his life-partner, Jack Doroshow, in various drag.

“There is an inherent lack in language to identify meaning precisely. We Miss-communicate continually. It’s an essential part of the human condition and our quest to discover. Slippage of the tongue is a playground for imagination and expression of the self. Erroneous interplay in that realm tickles my thrill spot.”

Carman received his MFA (2006) in sculpture from Hunter College. His work, which includes sculpture, installation, performance, and photography, investigates the mediation of constructed identity in social arenas and subsequent dislocation. Carman, using a variety of materials and found objects, often employs wit, frivolity, and travesty to subvert the norms of conformity. In addition to his own performance work, he has also appeared with Karen Finley and Michael Mahalchick. Carman’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally, including LMCC Swing Space, La Mama Gallery, The Jersey City Museum, General Public in Berlin, and Documenta XII in Kassel, Germany. Past awards include an LMCC Artist Grant, a Visual Aids Artist Grant, and a Tom Woods Award.
